The following vacancies for Engineer, Quantity Surveyor and Estimator from the equivalent of FÁS in New Zealand, have recently come to the attention of the Branch. Engineer

Job Purpose:
To manage the structural construction works effectively.
Principal Accountabilities:
To utilize their experience and technical knowledge to solve the many varied issues that arise between design and construction of the works.
To liaise with the design engineers and subcontractors selected for the structural trades on the project.
To review design and shop drawings to ensure buildability of the project and provide alternative solutions to issues that may arise.
To ensure that the project specification, standards and codes requirements are achieved.
To ensure all project dimensional tolerances and levels are achieved within contractual obligations.
To ensure project health and safety objectives are achieved and maintained in accordance with the company’s standards.
Salary:
NZD $100,000 – $120,000, remuneration is all salary, paid monthly by direct credit.
Tax paid in NZ.
Start Date:
When candidate is available.
Qualifications:
Tertiary Engineering qualifications in Structural engineering, minimum 3 years experience post graduation.
Other:
Employment Contract durations are 12, 24 and 36 months; 44 hours, Monday to Friday each week.
Annual leave is 4 weeks, plus 11 statutory days.
Sick Leave is 5 days per annum.
Pension Scheme is NZ Kiwisaver.
English language required.
Accommodation is not provided, help will be given to find some.
Travel costs to attend interview or take up employment will be paid by the Employer.

Quantity Surveyor

Job Purpose:
Carry out full contract servicing of projects including monitoring and reporting on the financial section of projects.
Principal Accountabilities:
To undertake subcontract letting and acceptance.
To set budgets.
To monitor actual costs against budgets and report through the PA System.
To monitor cashflow.
To assist the Project Manager to resolve contractual issues, Extensions of Time, etc.
To price, negotiate and agree variations with the Client and subcontractors.
To assist the Project Manager to ensure project completion.
To supervise and assist with training of Quantity Surveyor staff and Trainees.
To prepare monthly progress claims and submit to client.
To receive, analyze, approve and arrange payment of subcontractors claims.
To monitor the commercial aspects of subcontractor performance and contribute relevant information at project debrief stage.
Salary:
NZD $100,000 – $110,000, remuneration is all salary, paid monthly by direct credit.
Tax paid in NZ.

Qualifications:

Estimator

Job Purpose:
To price projects in a competitive manner.
Principal Accountabilities:
To discuss and agree with the appropriate Manager the most appropriate bid strategy for each project.
To determine the resources required to complete the project, for both Fletcher Construction and sub trades.
To quantify and price the proposed works, either in total (eg Elementally) or in part (eg Fletcher direct works trades only).
To obtain competitive sub trade prices.
To price Fletcher Construction P&G.
To assist project staff with estimating input on Projects during design development.
To determine the subcontractors to be included in the contract.
To compile the costing information and calculate total direct project cost.
To determine the risks associated with the project and incorporate an appropriate level of pricing and labour rate into the contract price.
To discuss and agree the profit margin with the appropriate Manager and calculate the final contract price.
To ensure the submission is signed in accordance with the delegation of Authority and submit to client.
To ensure appropriate handover of information to Project Manager, Contracts Manager, Quantity Surveyor and other relevant staff.
To maintain estimating databases.
To develop positive relationships with subcontractors and professional consultants.
To ensure the ongoing development of the company’s estimating tools.
To review estimating assumptions by maintaining close contact with the progress of each project, liaising closely with project staff, seeking ongoing feedback and regularly visiting construction sites.
Salary:
