Annual Dinner 2011

The 2011 Annual Dinner of the Republic of Ireland Branch of the Institution of Structural Engineers will be held in Bewley’s Hotel Ballsbridge (Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4), on Friday, 4 February 2011, at 7.30 p.m. (black tie).

The Annual Dinner is the principal social event for members and we would like to welcome all members in groups, or as individuals.  The Branch extends a warm welcome also to members’ guests, colleagues, partners, and friends.

Branch AGM and Evening Lecture – Aviva Stadium

The postposed evening lecture on the new Aviva Stadium has now been rescheduled. The evening lecture will now be held following the Branch AGM on Tuesday, 18 January 2011 (NOT on Tuesday, 11 January 2011 as previously advertised), in Room 259, Dublin Institute of Technology, Bolton St.

The recently completed Aviva Stadium, a joint venture between the IRFU and the FAI, opened its doors on 14th May 2010. The state of the art stadium has a seated capacity of 50,000 and has already established its landmark status on Dublin’s skyline.

The distinctive stadium roof, with its continuous curvilinear shape, was designed as a horseshoe shaped steel truss. The main stand structure was constructed using in situ concrete, with sustainability playing a key role throughout. This lecture will describe the structure, and outline the complex construction programme undertaken.

Speakers:

  • John Harte is a civil engineer with PM Group and was deputy project manager on the stadium project.
  • Sean Stagg is a contracts manager with John Sisk & Son Ltd.
